The East Central Community College men's and women's basketball teams both earned invitations to the 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 Tournament to be played March 5-9 at A.E. Wood Coliseum on the Mississippi College campus in Clinton.
The East Central men, with a 13-11 record, will be the No. 8 seed and face top-seeded Jones College in a first-round game at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6. Jones (20-6) was the MACJC South Division regular season champion and advanced to the finals of the 2019 MACJC State Tournament before falling to East Mississippi 61-58.
Other men's teams in the tournament include East Mississippi, Holmes, Gulf Coast, Northeast, Pearl River, and Southern University-Shreveport (La.).
The East Central men also competed in the MACJC State Basketball Tournament in Ellisville, falling in the first round to East Mississippi 90-73.
The ECCC Lady Warriors, with an 18-5 overall record, will be the No. 6 seed and play No. 3 seeded Itawamba Community College in a first-round game at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5. Itawamba (20-4) was the MACJC North Division regular season champion and advanced to the second round of the 2019 MACJC State Tournament before falling to Copiah-Lincoln 57-55.
Other women's teams in the tournament include Copiah-Lincoln, Jones, LSU-Eunice (La.), Gulf Coast, Northeast, and Pearl River.
