ECCC Golf Earns Spot in NJCAA National Championship

The East Central Community College golf team finished third in the National Junior College Athletic Association District D Championship, and in doing so earned a spot in the 2018 NJCAA Golf Championship to be played May 21-24 at GlenLakes Golf Club in Foley, Ala.

ECCC shot a team total 631 over the 36-hole NJCAA District D Championship to finish third behind Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and Meridian Community College at the event played April 28-29 at Lion Hills Golf Course in Columbus.

Three Warrior golfers finished among the top 14 players, led by sophomore Bailey Threlkeld (Choctawatchee High School, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.) who finished ninth with a nine-over par 153 total. Freshman Jacob Hamner from Vanderbilt Catholic High School in Houma, La., tied for 12th with an 11-over par 155 and sophomore David Barry of West Jones High School tied for 14th with a 13-over par 157. Other East Central golfers included Nathan Davis of Newton County, who finished 24th with a 22-over par 166, and Jacob School of Madison Central, who finished tied for 27th with a 24-over par 173.

ECCC earned a spot in the NJCAA District D Championship with a fourth-place finish earlier this month at the 2018 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges Conference/State Tournament at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club in Choctaw.

The East Central golf team is coached by Chris Clark of Decatur.
