Warrior Golf finishes 7th in MACCC Opener

The East Central Community College golf team finished in seventh place in the MACCC opener over the weekend. The event marked the return to conference play for Warrior golf after taking a two-year break when the program was suspended in 2018.

The tournament was hosted by Hinds Community College and played at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Raymond.

The Warriors posted a 322 in the opening round of the event, which was seventh-best among attending schools. The opening round was highlighted by a pair of 79's from River Maskew (Lucedale) and Gage Miller (Anniston, Ala.).

The course played much easier on the second day as the Warriors shaved off nine strokes to card a 313, which was fourth-best on the day. The score brought the ECCC total to 635 on the weekend, just five strokes back from tying for a fifth-place finish.

Bryce Denley (Mandeville, La.) posted a stellar round of 74 on the second day to lead the Warriors' strong showing. The impressive play put Denley in the 25th spot individually as his rounds of 82, 74 totaled 156. Miller backed up his 79 with a 78 and finished with a 157, while Ethan Wade (Laurel) shot an 83 followed by an eight-stroke improvement, 75, for a 158. Maskew shot an 82 on the second round for a two-day total of 161, while Daulton Nelson (Meridian) flipped Maskew's scores with an 82, 79, also for a 161. Davis Pool (Caledonia) rounded out the Warriors with a 180.
