Miller Earns NJCAA Berth; Maskew Wins Chris Clark Sportsmanship Award

The East Central Community College golf team wrapped up the 2023 season last week with a trip to The Oaks in Pass Christian. The tournament served as the MACCC Championship and the Warriors finished 7th in the 11-team field. The Warriors carded a 328 in the opening round before firing a 314, a 14-stroke improvement, in round two.

Though the event finished the '22-'23 season for most Warrior golfers, Gage Miller, a sophomore from Anniston, Ala., tied for 20th overall after shooting an 84 in the first round and a 75 in the second. His individual play earned him a spot in the NJCAA DII Gulf District Championship which will be held at Beau Pre Country Club in Natchez on April 20 and 21.

Another notable honor from the event was River Maskew earning the inaugural Chris Clark Sportsmanship Award. The award, established this semester, honors longtime ECCC golf coach and college employee Chris Clark who passed away in the fall semester. Each MACCC program nominates a player that upholds the integrity and sportsmanship that Clark continually showed throughout his storied career and coaches select the overall winner.
