East Central Community College's Will Thompson's (Shucktown, MS) stellar play has led to him being recognized by Swing U as the October NJCAA Division II player of the month.

Thompson used 11 birdies and a nine-under 135 (68-67) at the ECCC Invitational (MACCC #2) October 2-3 to win by six strokes for his first collegiate victory. The freshman from Shucktown, Miss., then recorded eight birdies in his nine-over 153 (78-75) to finish T5 at the Jones College Invitational October 16-17 before carding 12 birdies and an even-par 216 (74-70-72) for a three-stroke win at the Gulf Coast Invitational October 30-31. Thompson concluded the month with a 72.00 scoring average to lead the Warriors.

"We are very proud of this team for the way they performed in the fall season.  It is such a nice feeling to be recognized nationally. We are also proud of the individual performance of Will Thompson.  Earning All-Tournament honors and being an individual medalist in two of those events was quite an outstanding performance.  We are excited and ready for the upcoming spring season for sure.  We will be striving to improve upon how we did in the fall and look forward to finishing the spring season strong, hopefully advancing in post-season play", said head golf coach Scott Hill.

The Warriors are ranked eighth overall as a team for NJCAA Division II. Individually, Will Thompson is second in player rankings.

The Warriors will be back in action this spring at the Gulf Coast Invitational in February.
