Warriors Fall 4-0 to Visiting Gulf Coast

The East Central Community College Lady Warriors picked up a 1-0 shutout over the Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs, while the East Central men dropped a 4-0 decision to the Bulldogs in soccer action Friday, Sept. 28, on the ECCC campus in Decatur. 

In the opening match of the day, freshman forward Macey Spencer out of Florence got a goal in the 50th minute of play that proved to be the game-winner for East Central. It was her fifth goal of the season. She was assisted by freshman forward Bethany Hand of Dublin, Ireland. Sophomore Jordan Havens of Horn Lake got the shutout in goal with three saves. 

"The girls were fantastic defensively after a tough week of working on our shape," said ECCC head women's soccer coach Ryan Joiner. "We are happy to get this result against a quality opponent and to improve on our defensive work we've focused on all week. This was a complete team win."

The Lady Warriors improved to 4-7 overall with the non-division win. The Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs fell to 4-4.

In the men's match, Gulf Coast picked up four goals in the final 17 minutes of play for the 4-0 win.

The Warriors dropped to 2-8 on the season, while the Bulldogs improved to 4-6.

The East Central teams travel to Fulton to face Itawamba at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, before hosting Northwest on Friday, Oct. 5, at 3 p.m. in Decatur.
