Warrior Tennis Falls at No. 20 Meridian

The East Central Community College men's and women's tennis teams fell to the nationally ranked Meridian Community College teams in matches played Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Northeast Tennis Center in Meridian.

The Meridian men defeated East Central 8-1, while the Meridian women were victorious over the East Central women 7-2.

The Meridian Eagles are ranked No. 20 in the latest Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association NJCAA Top 25, while the Meridian Lady Eagles are No. 23.

The ECCC men are now 4-2 on the season, while the Lady Warriors are 3-3.

Men's Doubles Results:
EC's Chris Lawrance (York, Western Australia) and Isaac Santitto (Innisfail, Queensland, Australia) defeated MCC's Marko Puric and Max Mauney, 8-4; MCC's Chase Rigdon and Ethan Clopton defeated EC's Peyton Chaney (Newton County) and Dylan Barnett (Newton County), 8-4; and MCC's Guillermo Martin Tuñon and Michail Phillips defeated EC's Will Ladner (Stone County) and Dominick Donaldson (Florence), 8-1.

Men's Singles Results:
Puric defeated EC's Lawrance, 7-5, 6-1; Rigdon defeated EC's Santitto, 6-2, 6-4; Mauney defeated EC's Barnett, 6-0, 6-4; Clopton defeated EC's Isaac Keen (Winston Academy), 6-1, 6-1; Tuñon defeated EC's Ladner, 6-0, 6-1; and Phillips defeated EC's Chaney, 6-2, 6-4.

Women's Doubles Results:
MCC's Zoe Freke and Elisiva Latu defeated EC's Josie Hurst (Newton County) and Ali Grace Walker (Newton County), 8-1; MCC's Kennedy Rodriguez and Rachel VanHorn defeated EC's Gabriela Gomez (Bogota, Colombia) and Kayla Baucum (Newton County), 8-3; and EC's Bethany Wellerman (Newton County Academy) and Alexis Tindall (Newton County Academy) defeated MCC's Amber Wascomb and Sophia Calderon, 8-3

Women's Singles Results:
Rodriguez defeated EC's Gomez, 6-0, 6-3; Freke defeated EC's Tindall, 6-2, 6-1; Latu defeated EC's Hurst, 6-0, 6-1; VanHorn defeated EC's Walker, 6-2, 6-2; Wascomb defeated EC's Wellerman 7-6, 0-6 (10-7); and EC's Baucum defeated Calderon 6-1, 6-1.

East Central's next three tennis matches will be at the ECCC Tennis Complex on campus in Decatur. Gulf Coast visits on Thursday, Feb. 28 for matches at 1 p.m., followed by Southwest on Friday, March 1, at 1 p.m. East Central will host Hinds on Tuesday, March 5, at 2 p.m.
