Warrior Tennis Drops Road Match to No. 25 Jones

The East Central Community College tennis teams dropped a pair of road matches to the nationally ranked Jones College tennis teams Wednesday, March 6, on the Jones campus in Ellisville.

The No. 25 ranked Jones Bobcats topped the Warriors 9-0, while the No. 17 ranked Lady Bobcats defeated the Lady Warriors 7-2.

The East Central men are now 5-5 on the season while the women are 6-4.

"We lost a couple of doubles tie breakers which set the tone for the men's match," said ECCC head coach Jay Pacelli. "The score didn't indicate the quality of tennis played. On the women's side we got quality performances from Bethany Wellerman and our No. 2 doubles team against the defending state champions."

Women's Doubles Results:
JC's Ariadna Jordan and Mireia Jordan defeated EC's Josie Hurst (Newton County) and Ali Grace Walker (Newton County), 8-5; EC's Gabriela Gomez (Bogota, Colombia) and Kayla Baucum (Newton County) defeated JC's Kaitlyn Craig and Dixie Lei Hodges, 9-8 (7-4); and JC's Judith Mills and Danielle Viljoen defeated EC's Bethany Wellerman (Newton County Academy) and Alexis Tindall (Newton County Academy), 8-4.

Women's Singles Results:
Mireia Jordan defeated EC's Gomez, 6-2, 6-3; Ariadna Jordan defeated EC's Walker, 6-1, 6-1; Craig defeated EC's Tindall, 5-7, 6-2 (10-7); Viljoen defeated EC's Hurst, 6-0, 6-1; EC's Wellerman defeated Mills, 6-2, 6-2; and Hodges defeated EC's Baucum, 6-3, 7-5.

Men's Doubles Results:
JC's Jordi Morey and Noel Monsalve defeated EC's Chris Lawrance (York, Western Australia) and Isaac Santitto (Innisfail, Queensland, Australia), 9-8 (7-5); JC's Erich Fischer and Jacob Johnson defeated EC's Dylan Barnett (Newton County) and Peyton Chaney (Newton County), 9-8 (8-6); and JC's James McWilliams and Conner Henderson defeated EC's Isaac Keen (Winston Academy) and Jake Wofford (East Webster), 8-4.

Men's Singles Results:
Morey defeated EC's Lawrance, 6-2, 6-4; Monsalve defeated EC's Santitto, 6-4, 6-4; Fischer defeated EC's Barnett, 6-1, 6-2; Johnson defeated EC's Keen, 6-3, 6-1; JC's Cody Courtney defeated EC's Wofford, 6-2, 6-1; and McWilliams defeated EC's Chaney, 6-3, 6-1.

The East Central teams will host Copiah-Lincoln at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, before traveling to Perkinston to face Gulf Coast at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 15.
