Warrior Tennis Shuts Out Holmes 9-0

The East Central Community College tennis teams swept the visitors from Holmes Community College in matches played Friday, March 29, at the ECCC Tennis Complex in Decatur.

The No. 25 ranked Lady Warriors won 8-1, while the ECCC Warriors got a 9-0 shutout win. East Central defeated Holmes by identical 9-0 scores in Goodman back on Feb. 13.

With the wins, the ECCC men are now 8-8 on the season, while the Lady Warriors improved to 10-6.

"The ladies continue their steady play," said ECCC head coach Jay Pacelli. "It also was a nice victory for the men as we get ready for the home stretch of our spring season.

Men's Doubles Results:
EC's Chris Lawrance (York, Western Australia) and Isaac Santitto (Innisfail, Queensland, Australia) defeated Holmes' Dallas Elmore and Jaime Hernandez, 8-0; EC's Dylan Barnett (Newton County) and Peyton Chaney (Newton County) defeated Holmes' Nicholas Bails and Joshua Maughan, 8-5; and EC's Will Ladner (Stone County) and Jake Wofford (East Webster) defeated Holmes' Blaike Langston and Ben Skelton, 8-2.

Men's Singles Results:
EC's Lawrance defeated Elmore, 6-0, 6-0; EC's Santitto defeated Bails, 6-0, 6-0; EC's Barnett defeated Maughan, 6-2, 6-2; EC's Isaac Keen (Winston County) defeated Hernandez, 6-2, 6-2; EC's Wofford defeated Holmes' Blaike Langston, 6-0, 6-0; and EC's Chaney defeated Skelton, 6-0, 6-0.

Women's Doubles Results:
EC's Ali Grace Walker (Newton County) and Josie Hurst (Newton County) defeated Holmes' Alexis Kahmann and Khin Lwin, 8-6; EC's Gabriela Gomez (Bogota, Colombia) and Kayla Baucum (Newton County) defeated Holmes' Shelly Duncan and Emily Evans, 8-0; and EC's Bethany Wellerman (Newton County Academy) and Alexis Tindall (Newton County Academy) won by forfeit.

Women's Singles Results:
Kahmann defeated EC's Gomez, 6-4, 3-6 (10-8); EC's Walker defeated Lwin, 6-1, 6-0; EC's Hurst defeated Evans, 6-1, 6-0; EC's Tindall defeated Holmes' Mackenzie Hunt, 6-0, 6-0; EC's Wellerman defeated Duncan, 6-0, 6-0; and EC's Madison Crapps (Pisgah) won by forfeit.

East Central will hit the road to face Hinds in Raymond at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2. The Warriors and Lady Warriors will then host Marion Military (Ala.) at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 5, and Itawamba at Noon on Saturday, April 6, both in Decatur.
