ECCC Men's Tennis Earns Bid to National Championship

The No. 22 ranked East Central Community College men's tennis team is headed to Arizona as the Warriors received an at-large bid to the 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Men's Tennis Championship.

This year's championship will be played May 13-17 at the Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson.

"This is a tremendous honor for East Central Community College's tennis programs, and tremendous recognition of the improvement our men's team has made over the past 12 months," said ECCC head tennis coach Jay Pacelli. "We enthusiastically accepted the invitation. It will be a fitting reward for our graduating sophomores, and valuable experience for our freshmen as they prepare to lead the team next season."

The ECCC men's tennis team posted a 10-9 record in spring 2019, after going 1-13 a season before. That included wins over nationally ranked teams from Gadsden State (Ala.), Marion Military (Ala.), and Itawamba Community College.

The Warriors moved into the Oracle/ITA National Junior College Athletic Association Top 25 poll at No. 22 on April 18.

East Central will join 25 other teams at the national championship tournament in Tucson.
