3 Lady Warriors Earn All-State Basketball Honors

The East Central Community College Lady Warriors had three players earn All-State honors for their play in the 2018-19 season, including freshman guard Jariyah Covington who was voted Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges First Team All-State.

Sophomore forwards Sharan Turner (Gonzales, La., East Ascension) and Diamond Wraggs (Louisville) were voted MACJC Honorable Mention All-State.

Covington, who prepped at Starkville High School, led East Central in scoring with 11.7 points per game. She shot 38 percent from beyond the three-point line and 84 percent from the free throw line. She also averaged nearly two assists and two steals per game.

Turner scored 10 points and pulled down 4.8 rebounds per game. She led the Lady Warriors with 31 blocks on the season. Turner is expected to sign with Dillard University in New Orleans on national signing day.

Wraggs was one of only two Lady Warriors to start all 24 games this season. She scored eight points per game and led the team with five rebounds per contest. She shot 52 percent from the floor for the season. Wraggs is expected to sign with Mississippi Valley State University, along with teammate Whitney Waters (Heidelberg).

The trio helped the Lady Warriors to an 18-6 record and a berth in the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 Tournament.
