Lady Warriors Battle to 0-0 Tie in Final Preseason Match

The preseason has come to a close and the East Central Community College soccer teams are ready to jump into the 2019 regular season after hosting the Meridian Community College teams in a couple of exhibition matches Friday, Aug. 16.

The ECCC Lady Warriors and Meridian Lady Eagles battled to a 0-0 tie in the opening match in Bailey Stadium on the East Central campus in Decatur.

"We saw loads of positives from tonight's final preseason tune-up," said ECCC Head Women's Coach Ryan Joiner. "What we've focused on the past two weeks has started to become habit in relation to where we began. There is plenty left to work through over the coming weeks, but we are very happy with our team defensively and how we created chances tonight.

"We felt we had the majority of the ball throughout the game, but couldn't find a goal. The MCC defensive shape and their goalkeeper were outstanding all game."

In the men's action, the Eagles picked up a goal in each half to earn a 2-0 win over the East Central Warriors.

The East Central teams begin their regular seasons Thursday, Aug. 22, when they travel to Perkinston to face Mississippi Gulf Coast in non-division action. The men will play at 5 p.m. and the women at 7 p.m.
