Jones Tops Lady Warriors 2-1 in Soccer Action

The Jones College Bobcats grabbed a 5-0 win over the East Central Warriors in the opening match of the evening, and the Lady Bobcats followed with a 2-1 win over the East Central Lady Warriors in MACJC non-division soccer action Friday night, Sept. 27, at Bailey Stadium on the ECCC campus in Decatur.

The East Central men were held scoreless for the fourth straight match to fall to 3-8 on the season. The Jones Bobcats are 6-4.

In the women's action, the two teams were tied 1-1 at the half, with the East Central goal coming from sophomore forward Leah Anderson (Leyland, United Kingdom), her fourth goal of the week and team-leading 12th of the season. She was assisted by freshman forward Brendaisha Garrett (Gautier). A Jones goal in the 84th minute gave the Lady Bobcats the win.

With the loss, the East Central Lady Warriors are now 5-4-1 on the season, while the Jones Lady Bobcats improved to 7-5.

"We felt we played some decent soccer tonight against a tough opponent; however, in the end, we we're not rewarded with the score line against us," said ECCC Head Women's Soccer Coach Ryan Joiner. "The girls played four very tough non-conference games these last two weeks and hopefully we prepared for a run to the playoffs in the North Division by testing ourselves the past two weeks.

Both East Central teams look to return to the win column next week.

The East Central men will host Andrew College of Cuthbert, Ga., at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, while the women will travel to Summit to play Southwest at 2 p.m. that same day.

Both teams will face Holmes in Ridgeland on Friday, Oct. 4, with the women's match at 1 p.m. and the men playing at 3 p.m.
