Lady Warrior Soccer Falls 6-0 to No. 17 Holmes

The East Central Warriors defeated the homestanding Holmes Bulldogs 3-1 in soccer action Friday, Oct. 4, to take over sole possession of third place in the MACJC North Division standings.

In the women's match, the No. 17 ranked Holmes Lady Bulldogs defeated the East Central Lady Warriors 6-0.

The matches were played on the Holmes campus in Ridgeland.

With the win, the East Central Warriors improved to 5-8 overall on the season and 2-3 in the North Division. The Warriors are now in third place in the division, with the top three teams making postseason play. The Holmes Bulldogs fell to 2-10-1 overall and 1-4 in the division.

Scoring goals for East Central were freshman midfielder Caleb James (Jackson, Jim Hill), assisted by sophomore midfielder Jake Cockroft (Kosciusko); sophomore midfielder Terrell Johnson (Jackson, Murrah), assisted by freshman midfielder Hugo Chagas (Fortaleza, Brazil); and freshman midfielder Guilherme Sales (Manaus, Brazil), assisted by sophomore midfielder Joel Hill (Newton County).

With the loss, the East Central Lady Warriors fell to 6-5-1 on the season and 2-3 in division play. The Lady Warriors are tied for third place in the battle for the final playoff spot. The Holmes Lady Bulldogs improved to 11-2 overall and 5-1 in the North Division.

The East Central teams will be at home next week for a couple of North Division contests. Itawamba will visit Decatur on Tuesday, Oct. 8. The women will play at 1 p.m. and the men at 3 p.m. on the Soccer Pitch.

East Central will then host Hinds on Friday, Oct. 11, when the Warrior and Lady Warrior sophomores will be honored between matches. The women will play at 5 p.m. and the men at 7 p.m. at Bailey Stadium on campus.
