Anderson's 14th Goal Gives Lady Warriors Win Over Hinds

A goal in the 49th minute propelled the East Central Lady Warriors to a 1-0 win over the visiting Hinds Lady Eagles, while the Warriors dropped a 4-1 match to MACJC North Division-leading Hinds in matches played Friday, Oct. 11, at Bailey Stadium on the ECCC campus in Decatur.

It was Sophomore night for the ECCC teams as nine Lady Warriors and three Warriors were honored between matches.

Sophomore forward Leah Anderson (Leyland, United Kingdom) scored her team-leading 14th goal of the season on a penalty kick to give the Lady Warriors the win. Anderson is now tied for second all-time in goals in a season for the Lady Warriors and just two goals away from tying the all-time career mark.

The win improved the East Central Lady Warriors record to 7-6-1 on the season and 3-4 in MACJC North Division play. The Lady Warriors are in sole possession of third place in the battle for the final playoff spot. The Hinds Lady Eagles fell to 2-9 overall and 0-7 in division play.

The loss to Hinds in the men's game broke East Central's three-match winning streak. Sophomore midfielder Jake Cockroft (Kosciusko) scored for the Warriors.

The ECCC Warriors are now 6-9 overall and 3-4 in division play. East Central is in third place in division play, with the top three teams qualifying for the state playoffs. Hinds improved to 7-3-1 overall and 6-1 in the division.

The East Central men will take on Oxford College of Emory University at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Soccer Pitch on campus.

The final division matches of the year are Tuesday, Oct. 15, when East Central travels to Senatobia to face Northwest at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The Lady Warriors will close out the regular season on Friday, Oct. 18, when Dyersburg State (Tenn.) visits Decatur for a match at 2 p.m.
