Anderson Ties Career Mark in Lady Warrior Soccer Win

East Central sophomore forward Leah Anderson scored her 16th goal of the season and 22nd of her two-year career to tie the all-time career goal mark as the Lady Warriors defeated visiting Dyersburg State 4-1 Friday, Oct. 18, at the Soccer Pitch on the ECCC campus in Decatur.

It was the regular season finale for the Lady Warriors as they begin MACJC quarterfinal play on Tuesday, Oct. 22. As the No. 3 seed in the MACJC North Division, East Central will face either Jones College or Pearl River on the road.

Freshman forward Hannah Herren (Florence) picked up her sixth and seventh goals of the season in the win. Freshman midfielder Abbie Rutledge (Sheffield, United Kingdom) had the other East Central goal. Sophomore midfielder Macey Spencer (Florence) picked up her team-leading seventh assist of the season. Freshman defender Ameris Taylor (Ocean Springs) also had an assist.

Anderson of Leyland, United Kingdom, has scored 16 goals in 16 matches this season, including two hat tricks. She had six goals a year ago. She is tied for the most goals in a career with Brooke White, who tallied 22 goals in the 2006 and 2007 seasons. Anderson is in second place in most goals in a season. Sierra Maness scored 17 goals for the Lady Warriors in 2016.

The win improved the Lady Warriors' record to 9-6-1 on the season. The Dyersburg Lady Eagles fell to 3-10-2 overall and 2-6 in division play.

The East Central men's soccer team has also qualified for the state playoffs and will travel to Ellisville to face Jones College at 7 p.m. on Oct. 22.
