Lady Warrior Tennis Drops Conference Match at Co-Lin

The East Central Community College men's tennis team picked up a 9-0 shutout road win over the Copiah-Lincoln Wolves Saturday, Feb. 9, in Wesson. The ECCC women fell 8-1 to the Co-Lin Lady Wolves

The ECCC men are now 2-1 on the young season, while the Lady Warriors fell to 1-2.

"It was a good win against an undermanned Co-Lin men's team," said ECCC head coach Jay Pacelli. "The men took care of business. On the women's side, I'm looking for improved play when we face Holmes next week. The women are struggling at the moment."

Men's Doubles Results:
EC's Chris Lawrance (York, Western Australia) and Isaac Santitto (Innisfail, Queensland, Australia) defeated Braden Ishee and Drew Nelson, 8-2; EC's Dylan Barnett (Newton County) and Peyton Chaney (Newton County) defeated Toby White and Ray Drane, 8-0; EC's Isaac Keen (Winston Academy) and Jake Wofford (East Webster) won by forfeit.

Men's Singles Results:
EC's Lawrance defeated Ishee, 6-1, 6-0; EC's Santitto defeated Nelson, 6-1, 6-1; EC's Barnett defeated Toby White, 6-0, 6-1; EC's Keen defeated Jason Clayborn, 6-1, 6-0; and EC's Wofford and Dominick Donaldson (Stone County) both won by forfeit.

Women's Doubles Results:
Co-Lin's Paula Coronado and Carmen Manicea defeated EC's Ali Grace Walker (Newton County) and Josie Hurst (Newton County), 8-4; Co-Lin's Katy Clark and Kara Clark defeated EC's Gabriela Gomez (Bogota, Colombia) and Kayla Baucum (Newton County), 8-0; and Co-Lin's Madison Shows and McKenzie Shows defeated EC's Bethany Wellerman (Newton County Academy) and Alexis Tindall (Newton County Academy), 9-8 (9-7).

Women's Singles Results:
Coronado defeated EC's Gomez, 6-0, 6-0; Co-Lin's Manicea defeated EC's Walker, 6-0, 6-0; Katy Clark defeated EC's Hurst, 6-2, 6-1; Kara Clark defeated EC's Tindall, 7-5, 4-6 (10-6); EC's Wellerman defeated Co-Lin's Ashlyn Locke, 6-2, 6-3; and Co-Lin's Faith Bergeron defeated EC's Baucum, 6-2, 7-6.

East Central now travels to Goodman to face Holmes at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, and then to Summit to face Southwest at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15. The next home matches are at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, when Gulf Coast visits the Tennis Complex in Decatur.
