Lady Warrior Tennis Gets 9-0 Shutout at Southwest

The East Central Community College tennis teams swept Southwest Mississippi Community College 9-0 in matches Friday, Feb. 15, in McComb, their second shutout sweeps of an MACJC opponent of the week.

Both teams also swept Holmes Community College 9-0 in matches earlier in the week. The ECCC men are now 4-1 on the season, while the Lady Warriors are 3-2.

"Both teams are feeling good after a couple of impressive wins," said ECCC head tennis coach Jay Pacelli. "I definitely can sense their confidence growing. We are looking forward to competing against Meridian and Itawamba next week."

Men's Doubles Results in the 9-0 Win:
EC's Chris Lawrance (York, Western Australia) and Isaac Santitto (Innisfail, Queensland, Australia) defeated Daniel Espinosa and Skyler Rasberry, 8-0; EC's Peyton Chaney (Newton County) and Will Ladner (Stone County) defeated Matthew Phillips and Luke Morgan, 8-0; EC's Isaac Keen (Winston Academy) and Jake Wofford (East Webster) defeated Jexequiel Dela Cruz and Hunter Burgess, 8-0.

Men's Singles Results:
EC's Lawrance defeated Espinosa, 6-1, 6-1; EC's Santitto defeated Rasberry, 6-0, 6-1; EC's Ladner defeated Phillips, 6-2, 6-1; EC's Keen defeated Morgan, 6-0, 6-1; EC's Wofford defeated Dela Cruz, 6-0, 6-1; and EC's Chaney defeated Cullin Hendry, 6-1, 6-0.

Women's Doubles Results in the 9-0 Win:
EC's Ali Grace Walker (Newton County) and Josie Hurst (Newton County) defeated Alli Smith and Kimberly San, 8-1; EC's Gabriela Gomez (Bogota, Colombia) and Kayla Baucum (Newton County) defeated Megan White and Sarah Robinson, 8-2; and EC's Bethany Wellerman (Newton County Academy) and Alexis Tindall (Newton County Academy) won by forfeit. 

Women's Singles Results:
EC's Gomez defeated Smith, 6-1, 6-0; EC's Tindall defeated San, 6-0, 6-1; EC's Walker defeated White, 6-1, 6-1; EC's Hurst defeated Robinson, 6-1, 6-0; and EC's Wellerman and Baucum won by forfeit.

East Central now travels to Meridian for matches at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, and then to Fulton to face Itawamba at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22. The next home matches are at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, when Gulf Coast visits the Tennis Complex in Decatur.
