Baseball Warriors Drop Road Game at Shelton State

The East Central Community College Warriors picked up an unscheduled game against the Shelton State Community College Bucs on Monday, April 22, and dropped a 7-2 decision in a single nine-inning contest in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

East Central falls to 19-16 overall on the season. NJCAA Division I Shelton State improves to 27-18.

The Warriors last played on Tuesday, April 16, because of rain and picked up the game with Shelton State to avoid going eight days without a contest.

Three Shelton State pitchers held East Central to just three hits in the loss.

Freshman center fielder Al Dumas (Eupora) scored both East Central runs. He doubled to lead off the top of the third inning and later scored on a Buc error, and he scored again in the top of fifth on a bunt single by sophomore second baseman Anderson Shelley (Greenville, Washington School).

Shelton State put the game away in the bottom of the sixth by taking advantage of four walked batters and just two hits to plate four runs.

East Central now begins a four series road trip against MACJC foes, beginning with Copiah-Lincoln in Wesson at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, and then Northwest in Senatobia at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27.
