A walk-off single by Roper Ball in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the East Central Community College Warriors a 6-5 game two win and a baseball sweep over the visiting Coastal Alabama-South Sun Chiefs Saturday, Feb. 29. 

East Central won the opener 13-9.

East Central is now 7-5 on the season. The visitors from Bay Minette, Ala., are 1-13. 

It was the second straight day that the Warriors played a doubleheader at the Clark-Gay Baseball Complex on campus, having split with No. 12 Northeast on Friday.

Tied 5-5 heading to the bottom of the seventh in the nightcap, freshman left fielder Clayton Cook (Mize) opened the inning with a double before a bunt single by sophomore center fielder Dakota Kennedy (Choctaw Central) put runners on the corners. The sophomore infielder Ball (Nanih Waiya) stepped to the plate and singled in Cook to end the game.

Kennedy and sophomore right fielder Jesse Boydstun (Winston Academy) each had two-run homers earlier in the contest.

Freshman right-hander Grant Johnson (Hernando) got the win in relief. 

The Warriors scored in each of the first five innings in the opener to build a 13-4 lead. The Sun Chiefs scored the final five runs of the game to close the final margin to 13-9. East Central collected 17 hits to just seven for Coastal Alabama-South. 

Coming up big for the Warriors in game one was Boydstun who drove in four runs with a double, home run, and two singles. Kennedy had two doubles, two singles, and two runs batted in. Sophomore catcher Gavin Bailey (Newton County) drove in a pair of runs with a double and a single, sophomore designated hitter Eli Harrison (Newton County) had an RBI double, and freshman third baseman Hunter Barrett (Sumrall) drove in two runs with a double.

Freshman left-hander Jeremy Martin (Slidell, La., Northshore) got the win on the mound throwing the first six innings. Sophomore right-hander Braxton Rose (Newton County Academy) pitched the final three innings.

The Warriors will play a couple of games in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, March 3. East Central will play host Baton Rouge in a nine-inning game at 1 p.m. and then Kellogg Community College (Mich.) in a seven-inning affair at 4 p.m. 

On Saturday, March 7, the Warriors return home to play Southeastern Community College (Iowa) in a nine-inning game at 1 p.m. and then Jones College in a nine-inning game at 7 p.m., both at the Clark-Gay Baseball Complex in Decatur. Southeastern and Jones will play a seven-inning contest at 4 p.m.
