The East Central Community College men's and women's tennis teams dropped home matches Saturday, March 3, against nationally ranked teams from Jones County Junior College.
The East Central women lost a 7-2 match to the No. 22 ranked Jones County Lady Bobcats, and the ECCC men fell 8-1 to the No. 22 ranked Jones County Bobcats.
In the women's doubles matches, EC's Gabriela Gomez (Bogota, Colombia) and Tatiana Quinonez (Bogota, Colombia) lost to Mireia Jordan/Ariadna Jordan, 8-3; EC's Alexis Tindall of Newton County Academy and Caylee Grace Yarborough of Loyd Star lost to Beth Owen/Kaylee McLaurin, 8-2; and EC's Julia Johnston of Florence and Sara Mazzella of Newton County Academy fell to August Parker/Brooke Cran, 9-7.
In the women's singles, EC's Gomez lost to Mireia Jordan, 6-0, 6-1; EC's Quinonez lost to Ariadna Jordan, 6-0, 6-0; EC's Tindall fell to Owen, 6-0, 6-0; EC's Yarborough lost to McLaurin, 6-2, 6-4; EC's Bethany Wellerman out of Newton County Academy beat Parker, 6-3, 7-6; and EC's Johnston defeated Cran, 6-1, 6-2.
In the men's doubles action, EC's Tom Langelaar (Veldhoven, Netherlands) and Joseph Jabour of Warren Central defeated Noel Monsalve/Mitar Milosavljevic, 8-4; EC's Willie Wooten of Warren Central and Landon Gibson of Clarkdale lost to James Estrada/Erich Fischer, 8-2; and EC's Emontie Lewis of Terry and Jake Wofford of East Webster lost to Cody Courtney/Jed Slover, 8-2.
In the men's singles, EC's Langelaar lost to Milosavljevic, 6-1, 6-3; EC's Wooten lost to Monsalve, 6-1, 6-0; EC's Jabour lost to Courtney, 6-3, 6-4; EC's Lewis lost to Estrada, 6-4, 6-3; EC's Gibson lost to Fischer, 6-2, 7-6; and EC's Isaac Keen of Winston Academy lost to Daniel Tanious, 7-6, 6-4.
Next week, the East Central men and women will host Copiah-Lincoln Community College on March 8 at 2 p.m. and then Itawamba Community College on March 9, also at 2 p.m. The ECCC men will face Gadsden State Community College (Ala.) on Saturday, March 10, at 1 p.m. at the Tennis Complex in Decatur.
