No. 21 Warrior Tennis Drops Match at No. 20 Jones

For the second time this spring season, the nationally ranked East Central Community College tennis teams faced off against other ranked teams when they traveled to Ellisville for matches with Jones College Friday, Feb. 28.

The No. 19 ranked Jones women defeated the No. 20 East Central Lady Warriors 5-4, while the No. 20 Bobcats defeated the No. 21 Warriors 8-1.

With the losses, the Lady Warriors are now 5-3 on the season and the Warriors are 3-4. The Jones Lady Bobcats remain undefeated at 8-0 while the Bobcats improve to 8-2.

Women's Doubles Results:
JC's Bella Chela and Judith Mills defeated EC's Natalia Beltran (Bogota, Colombia) and Alejandra Vargas (Bogota, Colombia), 8-5; EC's Josie Hurst (Newton County) and Ali Grace Walker (Newton County) defeated JC's Danielle Viljoen and Dixie Lei Hodges, 8-1; and JC's Brooke Chism and Stori Endt defeated EC's Kayla Baucum (Newton County) and Marla Graham (Newton County Academy), 8-4. 

Women's Singles Results:
JC's Chela defeated EC's Beltran, 6-3, 6-3; JC's Viljoen defeated EC's Vargas 6-0, 6-0; EC's Walker defeated JC's Mills, 6-3, 6-1; EC's Hurst defeated JC's Hodges, 6-2, 2-6 (10-2); JC's Chism defeated EC's Baucum, 6-4, 6-0; and EC's Graham defeated JC's Kamryn Rodriguez, 6-2, 6-1.

Men's Doubles Results:
JC's Kwanda Mbalekwa and Jacob Johnson defeated EC's Chris Lawrance (York, Western Australia) and Isaac Santitto (Innisfail, Queensland, Australia), 8-6; JC's Daniel Panzica and James McWilliams defeated EC's Dylan Barnett (Newton County) and Peyton Chaney (Newton County), 8-6; and JC's Gasper Meda and Trey Hilton defeated EC's Dominick Donaldson (Florence) and Chris Albert (Vicksburg, St. Aloysius), 8-1.

Men's Singles Results:
JC's Meda defeated EC's Lawrance, 7-6, 6-0; JC's Mbalekwa defeated EC's Santitto, 6-4, 0-6 (11-9); JC's Panzica defeated EC's Barnett, 6-0, 6-3; EC's Chaney defeated JC's Johnson, 1-6, 6-4 (10-6); JC's Hilton defeated EC's Albert, 6-4, 6-2; and JC's McWilliams defeated EC's Donaldson, 6-1, 6-0.

The East Central Warriors will play a match Saturday, Feb. 29, against Gadsden State (Ala.) at 1 p.m. at the Tennis Complex on campus. 

The Lady Warriors and Warriors will face Copiah-Lincoln twice next week. The two teams will meet in Decatur on Tuesday, March 3, at 3 p.m., and then in Wesson on Friday, March 6, at 2 p.m.
