ECCC Men’s Tennis Defeats Gadsden State 5-4

The No. 20 ranked East Central Community College men's tennis team stepped out of conference to defeat Gadsden State (Ala.) 5-4 in a match played Saturday, Feb. 29, at the ECCC Tennis Complex on campus.

With the win, the Warriors improve to 4-4. The No. 25 ranked Gadsden State Cardinals are 0-4.

"We survived against a Gadsden State team that fought us tooth and nail," said ECCC head tennis coach Jay Pacelli. "Our top two doubles teams bounced back today after tough loses at Jones yesterday."

Doubles Results:
EC's Chris Lawrance (York, Western Australia) and Isaac Santitto (Innisfail, Queensland, Australia) defeated GS's Kyle Hale and Adam Vitolo, 8-0; EC's Dylan Barnett (Newton County) and Peyton Chaney (Newton County) defeated GS's Justin Blake and Chase White, 8-2; and GS's Alex Ivey and Kyle Parker defeated EC's Dominick Donaldson (Florence) and Chris Albert (Vicksburg, St. Aloysius), 8-5.

Singles Results:
EC's Lawrance defeated GS's Ivey, 6-0, 6-3; EC's Santitto defeated GS's Hale, 6-0, 6-0; GS's Blake defeated EC's Barnett, 7-6, 6-4; GS's White defeated EC's Chaney, 6-3, 6-4; EC's Albert defeated GS's Vitolo, 6-2, 6-0; and GS's Parker defeated EC's Donaldson, 3-6, 7-6 (10-6). 

The East Central Lady Warriors and Warriors will face Copiah-Lincoln twice next week. The two teams will meet in Decatur on Tuesday, March 3, at 3 p.m. and then in Wesson on Friday, March 6, at 2 p.m.
