The East Central Community College basketball seasons came to an end Thursday, Feb. 20, as the Warriors and Lady Warriors both fell to visiting Southwest on Sophomore Night in Brackeen-Wood Gym in Decatur.

The Southwest Lady Bears won the opener 58-53 over the Lady Warriors. The Bears defeated East Central 93-62 in the men's game.

It was the final games of the 2020 season for the East Central teams, which both failed to qualify for the MACJC State Tournament.

Sophomore guard Jariyah Covington (Starkville) led East Central with nine points as no Lady Warriors managed to reach double figures. Sophomore guard/forward Makaila Carter (Boutte, La., Hahnville) and freshman forward Asia Madison (Hazlehurst) each scored eight.

The ECCC Lady Warriors' season ends 10-13 overall and 5-9 in the South Division. The Southwest Lady Bears are now 16-7 overall and 9-5 in the division.

Guard JaMichael Wilson (Rayville, La.) closed out a strong freshman campaign with 18 points for East Central. Sophomore forward JaQuarius Smith (Noxubee County) scored 11 points and freshman guard Tate Ryder (Hattiesburg, Oak Grove) added 10.

The Warriors end their season with 9-14 overall and 4-10 in the MACJC South Division. Southwest is 14-9 overall and 8-6 in the division.
