Diamond Warriors Sweep Bevill State

After some late-game heroics in game one, the East Central Diamond Warriors swept the visiting Bevill State Bears in a doubleheader at home. The Warriors remain undefeated on the season with eight wins and zero losses.

 

Game One

 

It came down to the wire in game one, as EC Warriors grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 14-13, over Bevill State. The game was tied at 13 in the bottom of the tenth when Kelby Jordan singled, scoring one run.

Mo Little drove in five runners in the win. The right-handed hitter went 1-2 on the day, including a grand slam in the bottom of the 9th inning to send the game to extras.

 

Bevill State scored in the first after Connor Gibbs drew a walk, scoring one run. The Warriors jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Barret Rodgers singled and Jordan scored after tagging up, each scoring one run. A double by Rodgers extended the EC Warriors lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the second inning.

Bevill State tied the game in the top of the third thanks to a triple by Matt McCaffrey and an error. A single by Ayden Payne gave Bevill State the lead, 4-3, in the top of the fourth.

EC Warriors took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after Rodgers walked, Brady McGee scored after tagging up, and Reid Hall hit into a double play, each scoring one run. Chase Marshall hit a solo home run to right field in the top of the seventh for the Bevill State.

Bevill State flipped the game on its head in the top of the eighth, scoring five runs on three hits to take a 10-7 lead. The most significant blow in the inning was an error that drove in three.

Warriors scored five runs on two hits in the bottom of the ninth inning. Rodgers was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Mo Little hit a grand slam to center field.

Kamryn Carlisle earned the win for East Central. The right-handed pitcher gave up zero hits and runs over one inning, striking out one and walking none. Garrett Gilmore took the loss for Bevill State. They went one and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out none, and walking three. Evan Folse stepped on the bump first for the Diamond Warriors. The righty gave up three hits and three runs (two earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking two. In relief, Eli Smith threw two and one-third innings of no-run ball for EC Warriors. The reliever surrendered zero hits, striking out two and walking two.

 

Game Two

 

Jayden Adcox collected three hits in four bats as EC Warriors defeated Bevill State 13-4 on Tuesday. Adcox singled in the fourth inning, singled in the second inning, and doubled in the fifth inning.

 

Warriors got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Barret Rodgers singled and Trey Smith walked, each scoring one run.

Warriors added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning when Brady McGee singled, scoring one run; a steal of home scored two runs, and Adcox singled, scoring one run. A tag-up by Marvin Jackson extended the Warrior lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the third inning. 

Rodgers earned the win for the EC Warriors. The southpaw surrendered one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out four and walking one. Matthew Sheffield took the loss for Bevill State. The starting pitcher went three innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits, striking out one and walking three. Connor Aplin, Rhett Atkinson, and Creed Fulton each came on in relief for EC Warriors and shut down Bevill State.

The Warriors had a great game, piling up 15 hits. Nic Arender, Mo Little, John Leyton Lewis, and McGee all had multiple hits for the Warriors. The team also had a strong batting eye, earning nine walks throughout the game. Atkinson, Eli Smith, and Smith stood out from the rest of the team, each making two free passes. Jackson was able to steal two bases, and the Warriors as a whole were successful in stealing eight bases during the game.

 

Next Up

The Warriors will continue the home stand this weekend, starting on Saturday as a part of a round-robin tournament.
