Warriors Make Easy Work of the Piney Woods Post Grad

The East Central Warriors moved to 10-9 on the season after a dominant victory 97-77 over Piney Woods Post Grad. The Warriors had an offensive explosion in the second half, scoring 60 points in the final twenty minutes of play.


The contest was tight for the first six minutes as the Warriors tried to find their offensive rhythm, but several trips to the free-throw line kept ECCC in contention. With twelve minutes remaining in the half, Amare Holmes drained a wing three, pushing the Warrior lead to 18- 7. Later in the half, Christian Freeze, Austin Abrams, and Tamarion Jones hit consecutive threes, driving the lead to 36-21 with five minutes remaining in the half.

In the second half, the Warriors came out firing on all cylinders. ECCC strung numerous 6-0 scoring runs from solid defensive play and defensive rebounds. After three consecutive baskets by the Warriors, the lead ballooned to twenty points after a sweet off-glass floater by Christian Freeze.

Tamarion Jones led the Warriors in scoring with 17 points, a new career high for the freshman from Meridian, MS. Freshman Amare Holmes also posted a career-high of 13 points, hitting 3 of 4 from deep. Christian Freeze and Eli Walker also reached double figures for the Warriors, scoring 14 and 13, respectively.
The Warriors shot 49% from the floor, including twelve three-point shots as a team.
