Warriors Push Past the Trojans

The Warriors basketball team won against the visiting Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans with a score of 85-65. This twenty-point victory helped the Warriors improve their record to 11-9. They are currently on a three-game win streak, winning all three games with two conference victories.

The Warriors struggled early on in the first half. However, four minutes into the game, Zivko Damjanovic scored a contested close-range layup assisted by Isaiah Williams, giving the Warriors their first lead at 6-5. Later in the first half, Demarcus Powe scored a corner three-pointer assisted by Isaiah Williams. The first half remained competitive as both teams went on their respective runs. Near the end of the first half, Amare Holmes scored a corner three-point shot, assisted by Williams, which increased the Warrior lead to 31-27. Williams found Holmes again a few possessions later for a contested layup, making the score 33-29. After solid defense, the Warriors ended the first half with a 36-30 lead.

In the second half, freshman Tamarion Jones opened the scoring with a deep three from the top of the key. Powe and Williams scored back-to-back threes a few possessions later, increasing the lead to 45-34. The Warriors continued widening the margin and never looked back.

Five Warriors reached double figures, with Powe leading the team with 16 points, hitting 4 of 9 three-pointers. The Warriors shot 42% from the field as a team.

The Warriors will play again on Monday, February 5th, at 7:30 PM against Hinds Community College.
