ECCC Warrior Soccer Team Earns Playoff Bid

The East Central Community College Warrior soccer team cruised to a 6-0 victory over Copiah-Lincoln Community College on sophomore night. The win catapulted the Warriors to the No. 5 seed in the NJCAA Region 23/Gulf South District playoffs.

The Warriors are set to take on Itawamba Community College on Saturday, October 28 in Fulton at 2 p.m. The winner will then travel to Ellisville, for the semifinal match. Other teams in the playoffs include No. 1 Gulf Coast, who gets a bye in the opening round, No. 2 Jones College, No. 3 Pearl River, No. 4 Itawamba, No. 5 ECCC, No. 6 Southwest, and No. 7 Co-Lin.

The six goals in the match are the most from ECCC this year and came from six different players. Carlos Penate scored the first late in the first half before the Warriors went on a scoring spree in the second half. Avery Anders scored off an Ezequiel Hernandez assist before Stanley Trzaska capitalized on a pass from Anthony Cruz. Efezino Owhe made it 4-0 in favor of ECCC after a pass from Lisakhanya Nogcinisa, and Nate Gable scored an unassisted goal just seven minutes later. Kevin Resendiz rounded out the scoring with a goal in the 84th minute from Obed Medina.

The Warriors enter the playoffs with a 5-9-1 overall record and a 5-6 conference record. ICC has a 9-5-3 record and a 6-2-3 conference record. The 2 p.m. match in Fulton can be seen live at letsgoicctv.com.
