Softball Splits with BRCC

The Lady Warriors of East Central had a mixed day on Wednesday, splitting a pair of games with Baton Rouge Community College. The Warriors fell short in a hard-fought 10-7 loss in the opener but bounced back with an impressive 10-2 victory in the nightcap. The split brings the Lady Warriors' record to 15-8 as the team heads into conference play this weekend. 

Game One: L, 7-6

ECCC couldn't overcome an early deficit and fell to Baton Rouge Community College Bears Varsity in a 10-7 in game one, despite out-hitting their opponents ten to nine.

Baton Rouge got off to a quick start, scoring five runs in the first inning after capitalizing on some walks. The Warriors responded with five runs in the third inning, thanks to RBIs from Janci Aube, Meadow Villar, Taylor Pittman, and Shante Beaulieu.

Although the Warriors battled hard, the Lady Bears added three runs in the top of the seventh. Kristyn Lormand pitched a complete game for the BRCC in the circle, surrendering seven runs on ten hits while striking out three batters.

Rae Rae Evans started in the circle for the Lady Warriors, pitching two and a third innings and allowing seven runs on five hits, with two strikeouts. Caroline Jackson came in for relief and threw four and two-thirds innings. The Lady Warriors hit two home runs during the game, with Villar hitting a long ball in the seventh inning, and Lauren Dunbar going yard in the second inning.

The Warriors finished with ten hits, with Beaulieu, Anna Grace Shows, and Villar all collecting multiple hits. Villar, Shows, and Beaulieu led the team with two hits each. Baton Rouge Community College Bears Varsity scattered nine hits throughout the game, with Dulyea and Alara Taylor each collecting multiple hits.

Game Two: W, 10-2

The Lady Warriors cruised to a comfortable 10-2 victory in game two. ECCC got off to a quick start in the first inning, with a Meadow Villar sac fly scoring the first run of the game. ECCC added another two in the frame to grow the early lead to 3-0.

In the fifth inning, the Warriors exploded for five runs, with Anna Grace Shows and Sydney Phillips leading the offensive charge and driving in runs for the team.

Jackson was dominant in the pitcher's circle for the Warriors, allowing just two runs on four hits and striking out three batters over five innings. Meanwhile, BRCC struggled to find their footing against the  Lady Warriors' strong pitching, with Macy Castleman allowing four hits and ten runs over four and a third innings.

The Warriors hit two home runs during the game, with Villar putting one out in the fourth inning and Phillips going deep in the fifth inning with a three-run shot to run-rule the Lady Bears. Villar, Shows, Taylor Pittman, and Phillips all had one hit in the victory.

Up Next: 

The Lady Warriors start conference play this Saturday, March 11 as the team travels to Coahoma to take on the Lady Tigers at 1 and 3 p.m.
