Lady Warriors Split MACCC Doubleheader versus Mississippi Gulf Coast

The Lady Warriors split a doubleheader conference match-up with MACCC opponent Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. The Lady Warriors are now 24-8 overall and 10-4 in conference play.

Game One

Gulf Coast was the first to get on the board in the first when Shan hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

Gulf Coast added one run in the second after East Central Community College Lady Warriors committed an error.

East Central Community College Lady Warriors tied the game in the bottom of the sixth thanks to Lauren Dunbar's single and Emma Rankin's double.

Emily Collins earned the win for East Central Community College Lady Warriors. The starting pitcher gave up one hit and three runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out four and walking three. J Harrell took the loss for Gulf Coast. The starting pitcher went six and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits, striking out four and walking four.

Dunbar and Romero each collected two hits for the East Central Community College Lady Warriors. Romero led the team with two runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-2 on the day. The Lady Warriors had a strong eye at the plate, amassing four walks for the game. Romero and Jenna Chamblee led the team with two walks each.

Shan provided pop in the middle of the lineup and led Gulf Coast with two runs batted in.

They went 1-for-2 on the day. Gulf Coast stole three bases in the game.

Game Two

East Central Community College Lady Warriors fought back after falling behind by four runs in the second inning but ultimately fell short. They closed the gap by scoring on a single, an error, and a double.

The Lady Warriors were the first to score in the first inning when Kaitlyn Jones singled, bringing in one run. However, Gulf Coast turned the game around in the top of the second, scoring five runs on two hits to take a 5-1 lead. The highlight of the inning was a double by Roberson that drove in two runs.

Burnette earned the win for Gulf Coast, surrendering four hits and three runs (one earned) over five and two-thirds innings, with four strikeouts and two walks. Emily Collins pitched five innings in relief for the Lady Warriors, allowing zero hits and one unearned run, with two strikeouts and two walks. Janci Aube took the loss for the Lady Warriors, giving up five runs (two earned) on three hits over two innings, with two strikeouts and five walks. Falcon earned the save.

Sydney Phillips was instrumental for the Lady Warriors, driving in two runs from the number eight spot in the lineup. She went 1-for-3 on the day. The Lady Warriors turned one double play in the game.

For Gulf Coast, Roberson led with two hits in four at-bats from the leadoff position. Wilbanks and Roberson each drove in two runs. Shan led Gulf Coast with three walks.
