Family of Krissi Harris Munn throws first pitch

Decatur, MS - Yesterday's doubleheader featured a poignant moment as former Lady Warrior Krissi Harris Munn was posthumously honored for her courageous battle with melanoma. The current Lady Warriors welcomed Krissi's family, former teammates, and coach onto the field to throw the first pitch of game two.

Krissi Harris Munn played softball for the 2003 and 2004 Lady Warriors and later served as an assistant coach. Many of her teammates and former head softball coach Scott Hill were present yesterday in support.

Coach Hill said of her, "Krissi really embraced her role as a student-athlete and a leader on and off the field for the Lady Warriors! To say she had a passion to win is an understatement! It did not matter if it were a conference opponent, an intrasquad game during practice, a team scavenger hunt, or even dirty Santa at our Christmas parties; she had a desire to win and hated to lose!! She was also an outstanding coach and would have been a good one had she chosen that path. Krissi was an outstanding person who meant so much to so many!"

Krissi was an outstanding Newton County High School student-athlete before being named an All-State player and Academic All-American at East Central. Coach Justin Chaney and the Lady Cougars are also present today.

For 18 years, Krissi was a beloved teacher at Newton County Elementary and a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend.

College President Dr Brent Gregory and Director of Athletics Paul Nixon presented her family with a framed copy of Krissi's #28 jersey.
