Late scores keep Lady Warriors at bay

The ECCC Lady Warriors fell to the Southwest Lady Bears in Decatur last night, 70-51. The loss moves ECCC to 1-7 on the year in both regular season and conference play. The Lady Warriors are on the road on Saturday, March 13 as they travel to Meridian to face the Lady Eagles at 12 p.m. before returning to Decatur to host Hinds at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 15.

The opening quarter of action was back-and-forth, but the Lady Bears ended the 10-minute span with a 15-9 lead. The Lady Warriors battled in the second and cut the lead to five, but a late scoring burst put the Southwest on top 27-20 at the break.

ECCC could never capture the lead in the second half as both squads traded baskets. Again, both teams found solid footing in the second portion of a quarter and after three complete, Southwest led 43-35.

The fourth quarter saw loads of points as the Lady Bears pulled away to secure the win, 70-51.

ECCC's scoring efforts were led by Sylvia Jones (Brighton, Tenn.) who came off the bench to net 17 points. The freshman was stellar at the stripe as she went 11-for-11 from the line. Mirial Cannon (Madison) finished the day with 11 points, while Wynter Taylor (Dallas, Texas) poured in 10.
