Meridian Defeats Lady Warriors in Decatur

The East Central Community College Lady Warriors fell to 5-9, 2-3 on Monday night as the Lady Eagles of Meridian snuck out of Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium with a 50-44 win. The Lady Eagles improved to 15-3, 4-2 on the year. 

The Lady Warriors were rolling early in the contest as ECCC poured in 11 and 15 points in the first two quarters while holding the Lady Eagles to just six and eight. At the half, the Lady Warriors led, 26-14. 

The low-scoring contest continued in the second half, but turnovers plagued the Lady Warriors and allowed the Lady Eagles to sneak back into contention. Meridian netted 18 points in the third to the Lady Warriors' 13 to cut the lead to seven, 39-32, going into the final 10 minutes. 

MCC took the lead in the fourth and made some key free throws down the stretch to secure the six-point, 50-44, victory. 

Kaedre Denson led the Lady Warriors in numerous stats including 13 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, three steals, and four blocks, while Kennedee Shelton came off the bench and scored 12 and grabbed seven rebounds. 

The Lady Warriors outshot Meridian 41 percent to 34 percent from the floor, and outrebounded the Lady Eagles 41 to 30, but had 16 more turnovers. 

ECCC is on the road this Thursday, January 26 as the team travels to Perkinston to take on the Mississippi Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs at 6 p.m. Fans can watch the game live at www.mgcccbulldogs.com/watch
