Lady Warriors Earn First Conference Win at Home!

The Lady Warriors basketball team won their first conference game Saturday afternoon in Decatur against the visiting Trojans of Mississippi Delta Community College. With a final score of 54-43, the Lady Warriors improved their overall record to 12-6.

The game started strong for the Lady Warriors, with Morgan Freeny scoring a three-point shot from the wing. The first quarter was a defensive battle as the Lady Warriors held their opponents to just nine points.

In the second quarter, the Lady Trojans began to find their rhythm and started to score. However, with four minutes remaining in the quarter, Morgan Freeny scored another three-point shot from the top of the key, assisted by Miriam Prince. This basket gave the Lady Warriors a 20-14 lead. The Lady Trojans answered with a run of their own, taking a 26-22 lead into halftime.

The Lady Warriors started the second half strong, with Miriam Prince scoring free throws from the line. Mady Buckley tied the game at 26 points, each scoring a two-point jumper just above the free-throw line, assisted by Clementina Odom. Ruby Brannon then hit a late shot clock three-point shot, which sparked the home crowd. The Lady Warriors never trailed again in the contest.

Miriam Prince led the Lady Warriors in scoring with 18 points and also helped her teammates by getting 7 assists. The Lady Warriors played some stiff team defense holding the Lady Trojans to just 30% shooting from the field.

The Lady Warriors will play again on Monday, February 5th, at 5:30 PM against Hinds Community College.
